When it comes to home renovations the cost of installing or remodelling a new kitchen can be right up there next to extensions and loft conversion so you want to make sure you get it right. It can be overwhelming to design a kitchen from scratch as there is so much to think about but that’s where a bespoke kitchen designs company comes in such as Park House Kitchens, they can give you all the advice and pointers you need to be able to make an educated decision on your new kitchen.
There are two main things to consider when looking at a kitchen renovation, Function and Aesthetics:
Function
The first thing to think about when designing a kitchen is function – how do you want the space to work for you and your family? You need to think about things such as cupboard space, integrated appliances, positioning of sinks. If you can get the main shell of the kitchen and cabinet carcass layout perfected then you are sorted for a good 20 years+. Cabinet doors, colours and appliances can be changed and updated (just changing the doors of cabinets and handles in a kitchen can give it a whole new lease of life!) but a bad layout can annoy you for years to come.
Our kitchen at the moment is a really bad use of space, it’s essentially a big room with a kitchen pushed into the corner. Back when it was first installed in the ’90s (I want to say 1995 or 1996) it had a different layout, with a breakfast bar jutting into the middle of the room and then the cupboards in a U-shape on the other side of it, it worked really well. For reasons unbeknownst to me, my parents decided to do away with the breakfast bar sometime in the mid-2000s and we moved a dining table in there…which meant we had an empty dining room. Anyway, since then it’s always been a bit of an odd layout. It functions fine but it could be a lot better and we have big plans for how we want to change it up!
Aesthetics
Fashions change fairly quickly when it comes to kitchens, we’re not talking seasonal change but every few years or so design features go out of style and it can end up making houses look a bit dated. Remember the high gloss trend a few years ago? People went crazy for it (and choose some lary colours!) but now things have gone back to being a more natural and plain finish for kitchens. think about the day to day functionality of items to, lots of people went for big stainless steel American fridge freezers a few years ago and as an ex-cleaner, I can tell you they are an absolute pain to keep clean of fingerprints and looking nice and shiny!
