If you’re part of the Debt Free Community on social media then you’ve probably heard people talk about Side Hustles. People are always sharing success stories about how well their side hustle is doing and how much they are earning from them but maybe you’re not quite sure what a side hustle actually is.
What is a Side Hustle?
As a general rule a Side Hustle is anything you do to earn money outside of your full time job.
It is not a Part-Time job. A part-time job entails someone else calling the shots and telling you what needs to be done but with a side hustle you’re the boss – you can choose how much you want to work and how much you want to earn.
People often have a side hustle to help supplement their income so that they can reach a financial goal quicker, usually they are trying to get out of debt or saving up for something like a house deposit.
Most side hustles are usually more flexible jobs than your full time work and often people use side hustles to work in areas they are passionate about that they might not get to pursue as a career.
For example, a lot of people start an Etsy shop selling their crafts as a side hustle – it’s something they enjoy doing and can earn a small income from but isn’t something they could rely on as a full time income from the get go (It is very possible to earn a full time income from an Etsy shop though! That’s something we’ll cover in later posts).
Some people just use side hustle income to give them a bit more wiggle room in their budget each month, a lot of people like to spend the spare time they have in the evening to complete surveys online and earn a bit of extra money – you won’t get rich off of surveys but its all adds up!
Sometimes people worry that they don’t have any skills that could be transferrable to a side hustle, but let me tell you that is simply not the case. ANYTHING can become a sidehustle and more importantly anything can become a lucrative side hustle! And you never know, your side hustle might one day become a full-time job, allowing you to be your own boss!
